Jeanne-Marie Pittman
(Johannesburg Zoo) wins Bernard Harrison and Friends Award
for Best Professional Practice at the recent African
Association of Zoos and Aquaria (PAAZAB) 19th conference
hosted by uShaka Sea World in May 2008. Since the start of
her tenure as coordinator for the Wattled Crane Recovery
Project in 2004, the contractual obligations of partnership
have been documented amongst the participating parties, a
regular schedule of feedback meetings implemented, health
screening protocols established and carried out, wild second
egg collection coordinated with a 100% chick rearing success
rate, and most importantly of all, Wattled Cranes breeding
in a South African zoo again for the first time in over a
decade.
