RULES OF THE JOHANNESBURG ZOO
- The Zoo is open to visitors from 8:30am to 5:30pm, seven days a week.
- Under no circumstances will the Johannesburg Zoo issue refunds, either to the public or private functions once the visitor is on the premises of the Zoo, without the express written permission of Senior Management.
- Complimentary tickets cannot be used during special events.
- No domestic animals are allowed in the Zoo.
- Zoo visitors are not allowed to feed the animals as animals are fed a carefully designed and balanced diet.
- Due to animal safety we do not allow the use of balloons, straws, fireworks and balls of any kind for entertainment or individual use.
- We do not allow bicycles, scooters, skateboards or any other rides of a similar nature in the Zoo for the safety of our visitors and our animals.
- The Johannesburg Zoo roads are subject to National Road Laws
- The driver of any vehicle being driven in the Zoo must be briefed to drive at the
maximum speed of 20kph.
- No vehicles are allowed through the Zoo between 08:30 to 17:30 except for pre-arranged deliveries/collections. (Buggies are available for hire.)
- Delivery vehicles are allowed to enter the Zoo at the Stores Delivery
Entrance, at Upper Park drive and must be directed exactly where to deliver or to collect.
Jan Smuts Ave entrance only allows for small-scale deliveries related to the
administration Block, trucks are not allowed through this entrance.
The security guard on duty must check the goods in the vehicles (according to
the delivery/collection check form issued) every time a vehicle enters or leaves the Zoo.
- Zoo buggies are driven/used at own risk.
- Children or anyone without a valid driver’s licence are not permitted to drive Zoo buggies whether on their own or under supervision.
- Buggies must be returned to the operator by 5pm.
- Ferry transport is boarded at own risk.
- Only gas and skottel braais are allowed in the Zoo
- Open fire flames or campfires are only allowed at designated areas (Camp areas at the Old Elephant House, Education Centre and the Restaurant’s fire place). The open fires should be controlled by either a Zoo or a restaurant staff member.
- Alcoholic beverages are allowed at Private functions and must be restricted to the venue where it is served (i.e. visitors are not allowed to wander around the Zoo with alcohol).
- Visitors who have overindulged are not allowed to wander around the Zoo as they can be destructive to self or animals and property, and may pose a safety and security risk considering that the Zoo houses wild, dangerous animals.
- Visitors are not allowed to wander through the Zoo at night without the escort of a Zoo staff member.
