32 of the world’s beauty walk to raise funds at Johannesburg Zoo

32 of the world’s most beautiful women - Miss World Joburg Brand Ambassadors are in South Africa and will take part in a walk at Johannesburg Zoo on Sunday 27 June 2010. It is a 5 or 10 km walk in the zoo grounds, starting at 7h30 until10h00, with registration at 7h00. The walk will be followed by tea & coffee at the zoo’s restaurant.

The walk is meant to raise funds for Johannesburg Zoo Seals, which were perennial favorites with zoo visitors and offered unique opportunities for education and entertainment. A few months ago, Sushi, one of the seals, died from old age and Pricilla, the remaining seal is temporarily housed at a different facility until the zoo is able to rebuild the enclosure, as seals are pack animals and need company. The new pool will consist of: a stage area for public presentation, an amphitheater for visitors to watch the presentation, an off display holding, training and service facility and a life support system, making it a state of the art exhibit and display arena. In order to effect the changes the zoo will need to spend in the region of R 10 000 000, which the zoo can not afford.

The walk is a fun activity and it is open to everyone, both young and old. Participants could run fast to beat their own record or walk for fun with family & friends. The zoo charges R30 entrance fee to encourage participation.

Please join us for the walk. Parking will be at the Jan Smuts entrance and your entrance fee will be at no charge. Please RSVP with either myself or Nonkie (x 260) before 10h00 Friday 25 June.

Johannesburg Zoo strives to be Gauteng’s environmental and wildlife destination of choice. It houses 1784 animals, comprising 365 species in 54 hectares.
