Fate of Johannesburg Zoo lioness

The matter of the deceased Mr. Joe Ramonetha, who died from injuries of the lioness in Parys Conservation farm of the Johannesburg Zoo, on Monday 13 Febraury 2011 is still under investigation. Decisions will not be taken until an assessment on the behaviour of the animal as well as the outcome of an independent investigation on the matter of the deceased by law enforcement officers and other city structures are completed.

Today 3 high ranking politicians, Member of Mayoral Committee on Social and Human Development Cluster, Cllr Vondo, Mfikoe and Molwele visited zoo staff. To once more comfort and give enouragement on the zoo and the city’s commitment to ensure that the work environment is safe at all times. At the same meeting it was indicated that the family of the deceased will be supported with all necessary requirements to bury their loved one. The city sympathised with the family of the deceased and staff on this unfortunate incidedent that caused a life. Work was temporarily stopped during the meeting.
