Orienteer at the Zoo

Johannesburg Zoo will host the final round of the Gauteng Orienteering sprint series on Sunday 30th March. The event is organised by Rand Athletic Club Orienteers. Local orienteers will compete over short sprint courses of around 3km. There will be separate courses for men, women and novices.

Orienteering combines fast running with navigational skills using a specially drawn map. Competitors have to determine the fastest route round a number of control points through quick decision making and correct route choice.

Orienteering is a sport for both individuals and groups to participate in by either walking or running. Beginners are welcome at all orienteering events with novice courses being provided and instruction given as required.

Joburg Zoo is an ideal location for sprint orienteering providing a safe, intricate and interesting environment for courses set amongst the animal enclosures.
