TALL TALES: AN INTERACTIVE ZOO EXPERIENCE

It is with great excitement that the Johannesburg Zoo announces a new innovation in the South African Zoo environment; the interactive Zoo experience known as Tall Tales.

The Johannesburg Zoo is a large space, which can intimidate visitors. These Zoo visitors are starved for contact and interaction with Zoo personnel. The Tall Tales project is aimed at addressing this interaction gap between the Zoo and its visitors. It will achieve this by enriching the visitors’ experience through information provided by skilled and enthusiastic guides. The guides will be stationed at various animal enclosures, where they will be engaging with the visitors by providing information on types of animals, feeding, gestation, origin, the unique aspects of each particular animal, enrichment and care etc. The guides are also there to answer questions that visitors may have.

Watch out for the guides in their bright orange T-shirts at the following enclosures: Lions, Elephants, Polar Pears, Gorillas, Apes, Reptiles, Seals, Baboons and Birds. A trial run of the Tall Tales project will run from 8/12/2003-11/1/2004.

The Tall Tales initiative is the first of its kind in the South African Zoo environment. It will provide a great opportunity for the general public to understand zoo life.

The Johannesburg Zoo invites the public to come and enjoy our exciting interactive experience. We would also like to invite specifically educators and scholars as this experience is in line with the current education system. And we will greatly appreciate all media exposure
