Johannesburg Zoo celebrates World Environment Day.

Johannesburg, May 29, 2006

The United Nations 2006 World environmental Day theme is “Deserts and Desertification”. In keeping with this theme; the Johannesburg Zoo, Dept of Water Affairs and Forestry, Food and Trees for Africa, Birdlife Africa, Joburg Water, The Spider Club of Southern Africa, Rand water and 20/20 have put together their resources in celebrating one of the biggest environment campaigns to date.

The Johannesburg Zoo and its partners will be displaying edutainment exhibition displays that promise to be entertaining, informative and educational to learners and the public at large. The schools will be taught about the importance of our environment including water, trees and the role in which animals play in our lives. “What can we do to prevent the destruction of our environment, even in an urban setting”

The official World Environment Day is on the 5th of June; however our environmental event will take place on Friday 2 June as schools find it easier to visit the Zoo on Fridays. The main event would start from 10:00 until 13h00. Entry fee is R13 per person, for school groups and normal entry for individuals.
