APPOINTMENT OF CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER
The Chairman and Directors of the Board of the Johannesburg Zoo
are pleased to announce the appointment of Dr Stephen van der
Spuy as the new Chief Executive Officer of the Johannesburg Zoo
with effect from 1 March 2008.
Dr Van Der Spuy is a veterinarian with many years of experience
working with animals, as well as the administration of animal
facilities. Dr. Van Der Spuy owned and managed the Exotic Animal
Clinic at the Onderstepoort Veterinary Academic hospital of the
University of Pretoria prior to being appointed as the Manager
of Montecasino Bird Park. He then joined the Johannesburg Zoo in
2004 as the Executive Manager of the Animal Department. He is
actively involved in several conservation projects such as the
Wattled Crane Recovery Programme and the frog-breeding project
at the Johannesburg Zoo. He is on the Board of the Ground
Hornbill conservation project. Dr Van Der Spuy has assisted the
Jane Goodall Institute in Chimpanzee rescue operations in
various African countries.
The Board welcomes Dr Van Der Spuy as the new Chief Executive
officer and we wish him all the best in continuing the
development of the Zoo.
