BIRDFAIR FOR ALL SCHOOLS 7 OCTOBER 2005
The Johannesburg Zoo is presenting a Birdfair on 7 October 2005 especially for learners of all ages.
It is an exciting opportunity for all learners to learn about birds, conservation of birds, gardening for birds, indigenous and exotic birds and the conservation laws of keeping birds as pets. The day is designed to learn and have fun at the same time. Display gardens that attract birds will be constructed in the Zoo. Bird demonstrations will take place and the differences between raptors and other birds will be explained. The environment that birds live in will be highlighted with special emphasis on water bodies as all wetland birds are threatened. Activities will also include educational puppet shows, water games, and displays of eggs, feathers, different skulls and feet and will include information on bird ringing. A jumping castle arena will be available to add to the fun. All teachers will receive a teacher resource pack on departure with activities to do at home and at school. The newly launched
“Johannesburg Zoo birds for beginners” book will be available to purchase at R40-00 a copy. Learners and teachers enter at R13-00 per person.
Bookings can be made with Lawrence at 011 646-2000 ext 262 or fax 011 486-0244 and

20 September and all the entries will be displayed at the Birdfair.
All teachers are invited to a workshop on 15 September so that they can share in relevant information and make the most of their Zoo visit.
We hope to see you at this years exciting Birdfair. Please note that the fair will be on at the bandstand in the Zoo, from 8-9 October for the general public at the normal entrance rates.
