Plant a tree to grow our future; Arbor Day Celebration

Johannesburg, August 21, 2006

Arbor Week Celebration raises awareness of the importance of trees in our community. As sources of building material, oxygen, food, medicine, and simple scenic beauty, trees play a vital role in the health and well being of our communities.

Arbor Day, 1 September 2006, is an important date in the Zoo’s calendar; and our main sponsor Total SA has continually supported our yearly renowned Arbor Day programmes. The year 2006-program will be the program to remember, as our honourable Minister of Water Affairs and Forestry, Minister Lindiwe Hendricks will deliver the country’s Arbor Day message at Johannesburg Zoo.

We invite all schools and citizens to come and celebrate Arbor Day with us on 1 September 2006.

The Minister will deliver her Arbor Day message as follows:

Date: 1 September 2005

Times: 09h 00 am – 12h30 pm

Place: Johannesburg Zoo (Centenary Lawn and Band stand).

Entrance Fee: Zoo fees apply.

The Minister will also announce and hand certificates to those schools who took part on the 2005 Greening Campaign. For more information and to book programmes on Arbor Week Celebration at the Johannesburg Zoo, please contact Lawrence or Imelda on 011-646 2000 ext. 262 or 083 596 5453.
