Painting our city green! World Environment Day at the Johannesburg Zoo

Johannesburg, May 20, 2005

In keeping with the 2005 theme of the United Nations World environment Day, “Green Cities”, Johannesburg Zoo, Dept of Water Affairs and Forestry, Food and Trees for Africa, Delta Park and Random Harvest are organising one of the biggest environmental campaigns in years.

The Zoo and its partners will be showcasing environmental exhibitions. It will be entertaining, informative and educating to school children and the public at large. Messages will be about the importance of trees, the role animals play in our lives and the identification of indigenous and exotic trees.

World Environment Day is on Sunday, 5 June. The environmental celebration will take place on Friday 3 June 2005. The programme will commence at 10am and end 12:30. The entry fee is R12 per pupil.

Individual and school competitions will take place on the day. Schools can win plants to the value of R10 000; individual participants can win stationary to the value of R1000. Many Zoo green prizes will also be given away!
