Plant a tree to grow our future; Arbor Week Celebration at the Johannesburg Zoo

Johannesburg, August 19, 2005

Arbor Week Celebration raises awareness of the importance of trees in our community. As sources of building material, oxygen, food, medicine, and simple scenic beauty, trees play a vital role in the health and well being of our communities. “From 1 to 7 September every year, schools, businesses and organizations are encouraged to participate in community "greening" events to improve the health and beauty of the local environment and propose a green future for our country”. SA National Biodiversity Institute.

Arbor Week is an important week in the Zoo’s calendar, hence we will be running our yearly renowned arbor week programmes. These programmes include informative TALKS ABOUT TREES, HERBS (learning about trees and their usage), also include TREE PLANTING CEREMONY and ANIMAL DEMONSTRATION. Schools will be getting free trees courtesy of Dwarf, Total and Food/Trees for Africa.
