Lisa Passes away.

Johannesburg, April 5, 2006

The Johannesburg Zoo regrets to announce that the female Gorilla, Lisa, passed away today while under anesthetic at 3h30pm. Lisa underwent surgery to examine a large lump that had formed next to her breast. Surgery of this nature is very high risk for a gorilla of 35 years old. A post mortem will be conducted.

Lisa came to the Johannesburg Zoo from Moscow Zoo and was the life long partner of the late Max, the famous crime fighting gorilla. She will be missed by the staff and visitors to the Johannesburg Zoo.
