Informal Programmes

Day Safaris

  • Ferry tours – for schools, birthday parties, toddler groups, senior citizens – for any kind of group. It is a guided tour on a tractor and trailer system for 90 minutes

  • Groups of 15 or more are accommodated

  • Fees for tours include entrance and parking

  • R85-00 pp from 3 and older

  • Booking and payment in advance

Behind-the-Scenes Tour

  • Dare to go where Zoo Keepers go – this tour gives you an insight into Zoo life

  • Groups of 10 or more

  • R85-00 pp from 7 and older

  • Explore the Zoo at night – see the owls and cats.

  • Tours for individuals or groups available

  • R95-00 pp from 3 and older

Zoo Snoozzze

  • Sleep-overs for groups only. Minimum number of people 25.– cubs, scouts and schools

  • Sleep inside the Education Centre or bring your own tent

  • Night tour, behind-the-scenes tour and snake demonstration included

  • Price is R130 p.p for less than 20 people or R90-00 pp for more than 35 people.

  • Posters are aimed at all visitors but specially for those who do not attend educational sessions
  • Posters are informative and fun
  • Each has a theme according to the Zoo Zone

  • Hire animal skulls, foot prints, skins, feathers, eggs and many more exciting specimens from our Biofacts museum
  • By appointment only

Zoo-to-You

  • Our mobile Zoo is waiting for you to book a visit to your school

  • Live animals such as snakes, hedgehogs, birds and many more will visit and we bring skins and skulls from our museum

  • Aimed at schools, disadvantaged groups and physically challenged groups

Be Mad Club

Behaviour Enrichment Make A Difference is a programme to enrich the lives of our Zoo animals. It is aimed at Grade 8 - 12 learners. The club focuses on the welfare of the Zoo animals. You will have
the chance to learn what being a Zoo-keeper is all about, not to mention that you will be able to visit the Zoo every month!

  • The membership fee for 1 year is R400-00,
    which includes a Club T-shirt!

  • The Club activities happen one Saturday a month from 9:00 am to 14: 00 pm.

  • The first visit is free so that you can see if you do like it. However to receive your T-shirt, you need to pay the annual fee.

Honey Badger Club

The Johannesburg Zoo is offering an environmental education programme, the Honey Badgers Club, for children between the ages of Grade 1 - 7.
The club focuses on the animal information and welfare of the Zoo animals. You will have the chance to learn what being a Zoo-keeper is all about, not to mention that you will be able to visit the Zoo every month!

  • The membership fee for 1 year is R400-00, which includes a Club T-shirt!
