Comments from our judge: David Devo
Oosthuizen - Wildlife Photographer The
photographer's use of the "Rule of Thirds" makes the
photo's compositions excellent. He managed to
capture that lively glimmer of life in the eye of
the subject. The photo exhibits excellent shallow
Depth of Field ("DOF") making the viewer's eye focus
on the subject's face in a natural way. It showcases
Warm Color Metering which creates a pleasing and
interesting contrast between the green and right
ochre colours with the spot of whites. The photo has
lovely texture contrasts between the Meerkat coat
and grass blades.
Overall, the Photographer
must have waited quite some time for just the right
moment as we know how tricky Meerkats can be. The
pose makes interesting visual as one is left
wondering what the Meerkat is looking at.
