Job Specification
Responsible for a variety of
human resources programs and
policies, often encompassing several
areas of human resources, including
organizational development,
operations, recruiting,
compensation, benefits, industrial
relations and training. Assignments
may include development,
implementation, and evaluation of
programs or policies, and may focus
on service delivery within a segment
of the company, providing advice and
recommendations.

May provide
input to or define short and
long-term goals and objectives for
human resource service delivery.

Monitor implementation and
maintenance of performance
management system. Facilitate,
implement and monitor Employment
Equity

Ensure sound
Labour/Employee Relations practices

Assist Line Managers with

and implementing best HR practice

with departmental training where

Supply Chain Officer (6 Months
Contract) Reports to: the
Supply Chain Manager Minimum
Requirements Education and
Experience:
Completion of a
Diploma in Supply Chain, Finance,
Business Administration or related
field and two years experience in
governmental or commercial
accounting with emphasis on supply
chain or an equivalent combination
of experience, training and/or
education. Analyse all controls
related to Johannesburg Zoo’s
Supply-Chain, which covers vendor
bids, selection, contracting,
purchasing, receiving, assets
Control, inventory management,
distribution and associated accounts
payable function.
Skills and Interests: For supply chain work, you'll need: • Knowledge of the MFMA and PFMA • Knowledge of Supply Chain
Management policies and Treasury
Regulations • Good planning
skills • The ability to motivate
and lead a team • Good spoken
and written communication skills • Good problem-solving and numeracy
skills • Attention to detail • Confidence in using computer
packages, such as spreadsheets and
databases • The ability to work
under pressure to deadlines •
Good geographical knowledge •
Speaking a south African languages
might also be very useful.

DEPARTMENT:
PURPOSE:
To assist with
the preparation and distribution of
animal diets on a daily basis, by
following diet sheets and
maintaining a hygienic and safe work
environment.
KEY
OBJECTIVES • To maintain a
high standard dietary management
through the accurate preparation and
distribution of all relevant diets
within the zoo. • Ensure stock is
safeguarded at all times. •
Assist with stock recording. •
Off-load and pack foods as required. • Attend the market to load produce
when necessary. • Ensure the
kitchen and all equipment are
hygienically maintained at all
times. • To adhere to both the
OH&S Act and the Zoo Policies at all
times. • Perform weekend and
public holiday duties as specified
by a duty roster system. • Assist
with maintaining insect breeding
colonies. • Maintain a clean and
litter free zoo environment. • To
support the vision and mission of
the Johannesburg Zoological gardens
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Grade 12, Must be literate, Ability
to read diet sheets accurately and
communicate in English Able to
read scales and measure foods
correctly Understand the basic
feed ingredients Physically fit /
healthy (to carry 50Kg feed bags and
heavy boxes)

VACANCY: PRIMATE KEEPER(6 months
contract), JOHANNESBURG ZOO
A motivated, enthusiastic team
player is required to fill a 6 month
position of Primate Keeper in the
Animal Department at the
Johannesburg Zoo.
Responsibilities • To help
establish and maintain a high
standard of animal husbandry with
regard to small primates and Great
Apes at the Johannesburg Zoo. •
Duties include daily census,
monitoring, and animal observation,
helping the veterinary department
with procedures and to implement
preventative medicine, assisting the
enrichment officer with developing
enrichment programs, to do daily
maintenance and to develop animal
enclosures. • To maintain a high
standard of record keeping and
reporting. • Supervise and
develop staff, interns and
volunteers. • Provide or assist
with public education. • Help
maintain standards for PAAZAB
accreditation.
Requirements • A
minimum qualification of a Nature
Conservation Diploma, Zoological or
Biological Degree or an equivalent
qualification. • A minimum of
three years of proven experience
working in a Zoo or animal related
Institution. • Code 08 drivers
license • Excellent supervisory
and interpersonal skills. •
Computer literacy skills – windows,
PowerPoint, Internet. •
Applicants must be available to work
on a weekend roster. They will be
required to work after hours on
occasion.
